Involuntary Autobiography
Mixed media: sculpture, sound, 2007
Involuntary Autobiography is a handmade vinyl player that plays an LP with documentary sounds from the town of Portbou by the Spain–France border: the railway station, the beach, rain, storm, someone practicing scales on a violin. The needle is thick, it distorts the sound and distinction between documentary and abstract; it carves its way into the vinyl, slowly ruining the sound it registers. In the end, it has carved its own track where it remains.
