LINA SELANDER (b. 1973 in Stockholm) lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.
Selander’s films and installations can be read as compositions or thought models, where ideas and conditions are explored and weighed. She examines relationships between memory and perception, photography and film, and language and image. Lina Selander’s solo shows include Kunst Haus Wien; Argos – Centre for Art and Media, Brussels; Iniva, London; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; VOX – Centre de l’image contemporaine, Montréal. She was the Swedish representative at the Venice Biennale 2015. A selection of her group shows include: The Kyiv Biennale 2015; Seoul Media City Biennale 2014; Manifesta 2012 in Belgium.

| 2013-2015 | Microhistories The Project is funded by The Swedish Research Counsel. Project manager is Magnus Bärtås. Participants: Andrej Slavik, Suzana Milevska, Lars-Henrik Ståhl, Lina Selander and Mika Hannula. Microhistories studies the form of the video essay, which can be said to treat its subject matter in a critical and investigative way while at the same time reflecting its processes and its considerations. A characteristic of the video essay is that it takes up the details of a phenomenon in order to show how these details form part of a greater context. It shares this preoccupation with the small, marginalized stories with an approach within the field of history, so-called microhistory. Here one studies habits and routines rather than deliberate actions, underlying mentalities rather than explicit views. In microhistory the exception is more interesting than the rule, including the everyday, the overlooked details – all this that can prove to be as important as the "grand" recognized history. This project brings together prominent practices and theoreticians within three fields – art, artistic research and microhistory – in order to build shared knowledge. |

With Ole Lutzow-Holm, Anna Koch, Cecila Hansson, Magnus Florin, Mats Persson, Anders Hultqvist, Anna Lindal, Lina Selander, Henrik Hellstenius and Magnus Haglund. Here, an expanded field was created, an attempt to get the music to enter into dialogue with parallel understandings of art, alternative approaches and other practices. After the meeting with the mirror group, the anthology Music Freedom and Restriction: 16 variations on a theme was created. The book was published by Daidalos in 2012. |
