Children of the Children of the Revolution
Group exhibition at Färgfabriken, Stockholm
Curated by: Jonatan Habib Engqvist
2018.04.14–2018.08.19
The exhibition brings together five artists from a generation who may share a common experience. Signe Johannessen, Joanna Lombard, Ylva Snöfrid, Lina Selander, and Nikolina Ställborn are all, in different ways, children of idealists who grew up in “alternative” left-wing environments during the counter-urbanization movement known as “the green wave”. They are children of a generation who wanted to design an alternative way of living. Often it was a matter of progressive and well-meaning relationships with values that we take for granted today. At other times, it was not the healthiest of environments for children and young people to be exposed to. Early in life, these artists learned how to decode the alternative norm and art made it possible for them to express its complexity. Now recognized, the artists belong to a generation of parents who face a double desire – they know what it means to find themselves at once outside of and a part of society. They can relate to both conventional and alternative dogmas.
